The employee of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, who allegedly recruited the employee of the Parliament and the Border Police, accused of treason, will be declared persona non grata. The official is to leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova in the coming days. Russian ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov was informed of this and summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Chisinau on Thursday, August 1.
Vasnetsov made several statements to journalists as he left the MFA, criticizing Chisinau’s decision in this case.
“It is very difficult to explain these actions. Such actions dismantle bilateral relations. I don’t want to get into some conspiracy theory, but we consider all this unfriendly and not contributing to the development of bilateral relations. We have a large number of diplomats. The investigation is still ongoing and remains unfinished. Strangely, authorities have not yet gathered the evidence base needed to declare it persona non grata.

You know, the Russian Federation always finds an appropriate response. Let us see. Of course, there will be an answer. We will see what decision the leadership will take,” Vasnetsov said.
The Foreign Ministry has also reacted, confirming that an employee of the Russian Embassy has been declared persona non grata.
“The decision of the Moldovan authorities was taken as a result of specific activities undertaken, as a result of which information and evidence we obtained that the Russian diplomat was carrying out on the territory of the Republic of Moldova activities incompatible with diplomatic status.
In this context, the employee of the Russian Embassy is to leave the Republic of Moldova.”
