Whether May 9 should serve as a day of celebration or remembrance was the question that Realitatea addressed to several lawmakers in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. Opinions differed, while lawmakers emphasized the importance of remembering the horrors of war.

Igor Dodon insisted that May 9 is a day of celebration. The socialist leader said he would celebrate Europe Day only if authorities moved the event to May 8.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu stated that society must pay tribute to those who fought in World War II, whether willingly or unwillingly. At the same time, he stressed that May 9 should also symbolize the union of peace created after the end of the war.

Socialist lawmaker Pavel Voicu said that he had celebrated Victory Day since childhood and would continue the tradition in memory of war victims.

Meanwhile, Renato Usatii, leader of the Partidul Nostru parliamentary faction, brought copies of the book From Third World to First to his colleagues in Parliament ahead of May 9. He said he hoped the parliamentary majority would read the book and later draft better amendments to legislation.
