The parliamentary faction of Democracy at Home has suggested it may set a political “trap” for President Maia Sandu during consultations on the nomination of a new prime minister.

MP Alexandru Versinin said he intends to propose Igor Grosu for the post of prime minister.

According to Versinin, the party wants to see how the president would react to such a proposal, with faction members expecting that Sandu would reject Grosu’s candidacy.

“There is certainly an option for us to propose him and see how the president refuses Mr. Grosu. He is the party leader, the one who went through villages asking for people’s votes and making promises. (…) Not only me—all 100 other MPs would get rid of this party leader,” Versinin said.

Although the Democracy at Home faction had initially announced that it would not attend the consultations, its members later said they would meet with the president, while setting several conditions.

They criticized the way the consultations had been organized and called on President Sandu to engage in discussions with both the media and the public.
