(VIDEO) “Moldova Chooses Europe” campaign in Drochia. What do people in the north of the country think about the EU?

A country with well-paid jobs, well-equipped schools and universities, modern hospitals, and carefree old age. It is how Moldovans from Drochia see the future of the Republic of Moldova, waiting for the historic day when our country will join the great European family. People say they still hope to see this small, long-neglected country take a big step forward.

“We would greatly benefit from joining the European Union as soon as possible. There are also fears, but more hopes,” said a Drochia resident.

“The Soviet Union’s thinking has not disappeared in our country. I know neighbors. I think they watch too many TV postures from Russia, and there, the propaganda is talking about the revival of the Soviet Union. I disagree with that. We have already passed this stage. We have to move forward,” added another man.

People have high expectations from the European Union and the leadership of our country.

“Firstly, we must stop corruption, raise people’s salaries, create proper infrastructure, and develop the country. People coming to the country should have something to do,” said one man.

“To know that parents and children will have a good education in the present and future, a good job, and a good pension. It’s good here, the country is beautiful, and we must keep it,” a woman added.

The Vox, which took place in the town of Drochia, is part of the campaign launched by the REALITATEA Press Group: “Moldova Chooses Europe,” in which we go to towns and cities across the country and talk to citizens about Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
