(VIDEO) Moldova’s first medal at the Olympic Games: Denis Vieru wins the bronze medal

Judoka Denis Vieru won a bronze medal at the Olympics in Paris. It is Moldova’s first medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The Moldovan athlete won the 1/8 and 1/4 final matches over the opponents from Finland and Serbia. In the semifinals, Denis Vieru lost to Hifumi Abe from Japan.

In the fight for the bronze medal, Vieru met with Frenchman Walid Hear and won.

He told the mass media where he would spend the prize money.

Recall Denis Vieru 2023, who topped the world ranking of judokas in the weight category of up to 66 kg. Denis Vieru finished 2023 with 6580 points in the world ranking, the Ministry of Education reports. It is 766 points more than Mongolian Bashuu Yondonperenlei, who finished second.

Pavel Alovatsky competed in the 400-meter freestyle swimming event. He ranked 31st overall in the qualification round and did not qualify.

Twenty-six athletes will represent Moldova at the 2024 Olympic Games, participating in 10 events.
