Video Recean commented on the summoning of Vasnetsov to the MFA: Violations on constitutionally controlled territory are not permitted

According to Dorin Recean, the Republic of Moldova will not tolerate any violations on its constitutionally controlled territory. This statement was made in the context of the opening of six polling stations for the election of the Russian president on the left bank of the Dniester. Following the summoning of Russian Ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA,) the declaration has been made.

“The Republic of Moldova requests to be treated with respect, which includes showing respect for its citizens. (…) The state intervenes only where it has control over the environment. We will not tolerate any violations on territory controlled by constitutional authorities. As stated earlier, the protest note has been submitted to the Russian Ambassador.

Once again, it is important to emphasise the need for respect towards the state of the Republic of Moldova and its citizens,” commented the Prime Minister.

Diplomats in Chisinau criticised Russia’s decision to open six polling stations in Moldova, stating that it “defies the norms of international law.”
The authorities are currently monitoring the situation and will announce later whether any further measures will be taken in response to the actions of the Russian authorities.

It is important to note that the Ministry of Internal Affairs previously announced that only one polling station for the election of the Russian President could open on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The previous Russian presidential election was held in March 2018, at that time 27 polling stations were opened in Moldova, with only three of them on the territory controlled by the official authorities and another 24 on the territory of Transnistria.

After the talks at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vasnetsov claimed that Moldova’s actions would violate the rights of a quarter of a million Russians living in the country who wish to vote. He considered the note to be unfounded.
