(VIDEO) Serebrian compares Moldova with Germany, talking about Transnistria’s reintegration: it cannot last a few months

Oleg Serebrian compared Moldova to Germans when discussing the Transnistrian reintegration process. The official told journalists that the process cannot be completed in a few months or a year and involves certain costs that Moldova’s population has to bear.

At the same time, the deputy prime minister for reintegration pointed out that Germany has been undergoing such a political process for more than 30 years without completing it. However, according to the official, the most complicated will be the process of psychological inclusion of citizens from the left bank of the Dniester, who were affected by Russian propaganda after the 1992 war.

“It cannot last a few months or a year. Germany, the 10th largest economy in the world, has a reintegration process that has been going on for 30-something years. It is still not completed. Reintegration is not just a political step. It is also a question of reconciliation of economic spaces and mentality.

It will be most difficult to build the moral and psychological integration of the two shores. We have to recognize that the left bank of the Dniester has been more infected by Kremlin propaganda. From this perspective, it is hard to say that it can last a few months. Citizens must understand that a reintegration process costs,” Serebrian told journalists.

Earlier, Maia Sandu said she wanted the Transnistrian conflict to be resolved by 2030 when the Chisinau authorities plan to turn Moldova into an EU member state. However, the head of state does not rule out the integration scenario without the self-proclaimed region.
