European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has sent a message to Moldova and Ukraine ahead of intergovernmental conferences in Luxembourg. The official pointed out that we have a challenging path ahead of us to become EU member states.
According to the head of the European Commission, the events in Luxembourg are significant for our country and neighbors. Von der Leyen added that the people of Moldova and Ukraine have shown that they want to be on the side of peace and democracy.
“Congratulations to Moldova and Ukraine for opening accession negotiations. It is good news for the people of Ukraine, Moldova, and the whole European Union. The way ahead will be challenging but full of opportunities. I wish you a successful start to the negotiations”, the European official said.

Following the intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg, officials will announce the de facto launch of Moldova’s EU accession negotiations on Tuesday evening. The Moldovan delegation, led by Dorin Recean, is attending the event.
