Air defense involves a complex and costly set of measures, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii said in an interview with PISA. According to the official, the field is a priority for the authorities in Chisinau.
However, the defense minister noted that protecting the country’s airspace cannot be achieved in a short period, particularly given the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“Air defense is an inherently very complex and costly set of measures, and it cannot be established within a short period, especially at a time when it is a priority for countries at war, such as Ukraine, as well as for all neighboring countries. The Republic of Moldova shares its longest border with Ukraine, which is at war. This border stretches for 1,212 kilometers. Given the consequences of this war and, in some cases, deliberate attacks by the Russian Federation, protecting our airspace is a priority for us,” Nosatii said.
Speaking about the participation of Moldovan military personnel in international missions, Nosatîi noted that international cooperation is also among the National Army’s priorities and that the number of agreements in this area has increased.
