Austrian Defense Minister Claudia Tanner met with the president of the Association of Winter Sports of the Republic of Moldova (AWSRM), Dmitri Torner, in Vienna on April 10. This was reported by Dmitri Torner on his Facebook page.
The main topic on the agenda was the prospect of cooperation in the sports sector. The parties discussed the possibility of cooperation between the AWSRM and the Austrian Army Sports Association (ÖHSV), which operates under the Austrian Ministry of Defense.
The Austrian side expressed interest in establishing a dialog. It was noted that Austria has considerable experience in the sports field, which they intend to share with Moldova.
During the meeting, Dimitri Torner said that Austria managed to build a successful model for the sports reserve’s formation based on clubs belonging to the ÖHSV, which contributes to the sports of the highest achievements development.

“We are interested in the successful experience of the Austrian Army Sports Association and it is this model that we would like to implement within the development of the Moldovan Winter Sports Association, including in the context of creating a sports reserve, patriotic education, and employment of athletes,” Dmitri Torner said.
Soon, the Moldovan Winter Sports Association’s representatives will visit the exclusive preparatory camp for biathletes in Hochfilzen, where the Austrian Army Sports Association athletes are trained, to familiarize themselves with the conditions of the training process.
During the meeting, they discussed the prospect of preparing an agreement between the associations for further cooperation and exchange of experience.
At the meeting, the sides emphasized the importance of cooperation within Moldova’s integration processes into the European community.
“We aspire to join the European family and develop cooperation in all fields – in sports and security. We hope to adopt the Austrian experience to implement sports training in Moldova,” Torner summarized.
