“We chose peace and the European way”: how did Moldova celebrate Independence Day?

On Moldova’s Independence Day, when we celebrate a holiday that unites all of us, we celebrate our freedom and dignity. President Maia Sandu said that this is a day when we honor our ancestors and share the same optimism and hope for the country’s future and our children.

“Where the peace and independence of our country will be protected, workers will have a chance to live well, and Moldova will be treated with respect and appreciation. We can only succeed together, just as our parents won independence 32 years ago. It takes a whole village to raise a child. It takes every person to raise a country. Happy Birthday, Moldova! We have chosen peace, the European path, and a decent future for future generations,” – concluded President Maia Sandu.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that the efforts to gain independence continue, while the spirit of togetherness and the courage of each citizen will materialize in Moldova’s successes.

“We, as a nation, should be more consolidated and more united to realize together the dream of Moldova’s accession to the European Union,” he emphasized.

In his Independence Day message, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said: “32 years after independence, I see a stronger, safer, more self-confident Moldova that knows what it wants. Happy Birthday, Republic of Moldova! Many happy years to you, dear Moldovans!”.

On the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the Independence of Moldova, an exhibition dedicated to the national renaissance movement and the achievement of Moldova’s independence was organized in the premises of the Parliament.

On August 27, our country celebrates National Day – Independence Day. On this day in 1991, 278 members of Parliament signed the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova.
