A Moldovan citizen returning home after years abroad will be able to bring back not only suitcases, but also household appliances and personal goods without paying import duties. The Government will examine the exact list of items allowed duty-free during its meeting on February 18.

The draft decision clearly sets out what and how much citizens who return to settle permanently in the Republic of Moldova may import. The permitted items include one refrigerator or freezer, one washing machine, one dishwasher, one microwave oven, one notebook, one television set, and two mobile phones.

The list also covers other household and personal goods, such as up to 10 pairs of footwear, clothing, carpets, curtains, furniture, kitchen sets, one vacuum cleaner, coffee and tea machines, as well as an electric scooter, a bicycle, or a musical instrument. Authorities limit the quantities to ensure that citizens bring these goods for personal use rather than for commercial purposes.

The initiative continues the existing mechanism that allows Moldovans who resettle in the country to benefit from exemption from import duties on personal belongings and one motor vehicle.
