Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said Moldova would accept a gradual integration process into the European Union, provided that it leads to full EU membership.

Speaking after the intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg, Munteanu said he was encouraged by the reactions of EU member states and believes Moldova has earned their trust through its reform efforts and progress on the European path.

“We are confident, and I believe we have gained the trust of the European member states. The exact format of accession is, I think, still under discussion. What is important for us, for Moldova, is to have a clear roadmap toward full membership in the European Union. If that roadmap includes intermediate steps, that is acceptable, as long as we can see the final goal within the closest possible reach,” Munteanu said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the key objective for Chisinau is securing a clear and credible path toward full EU membership, regardless of whether the process includes transitional stages.

On June 15, Moldova officially opened the first cluster of accession negotiations with the European Union during an intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg. Moldovan authorities described the launch of negotiations as a historic milestone in the country’s European integration process.
