Public officials from the Parliament Secretariat discussed best practices for parliamentary oversight of European Union assistance during a dedicated training workshop.
Over 60 officials attended the two thematic sessions, where experts from Greece, Italy, and Romania delivered presentations. They shared relevant examples of parliamentary oversight and civic engagement in legislative processes and EU funds. The experts highlighted the methods and systems implemented in their countries to oversee EU financial aid. They also highlighted public hearings as a key tool to ensure transparency and citizen participation in decision-making.
In the beginning, Secretary General of Parliament Igor Talmazan emphasized the importance of strengthening the institutional capacities of the Parliament Secretariat, particularly for officials involved in the European integration process. “I encourage you to participate actively and share your perspectives. Only through a constructive exchange of ideas and experiences can we improve the Secretariat’s work,” stated Igor Talmazan.

Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Tamara Gheorghita thanked the experts for their contributions. “We hope this cooperation will lead to the development of useful materials that support the daily work of the Parliament Secretariat, especially in the context of European integration,” said Tamara Gheorghita.
The workshop, titled “Best Practices in Parliamentary Oversight of EU and Other Types of Assistance,” took place within the Twinning Project “Strengthening the Capacity of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and its Role in the EU Accession Process.” Experts Georgia Manoli, Ioannis Nychas, Marius–Alexandru Valeanu, and Marco Cerase led the sessions. This activity reflects the Parliament of Moldova’s commitment to strengthening democratic mechanisms and aligning its practices with EU standards to advance European integration.
