Four clusters in the Cahul and Ungheni regions have been awarded grants of €100,000 each, assistance provided by the European Union through the “EU4Moldova: Key Regions” program, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), according to MOLDPRES.
In Cahul, the livestock cluster “Bacii Sudului” will focus on developing and enhancing technologies for sheep farming and improving the quality of products. The winemaking cluster will establish an Oenology Center, while the beekeeping cluster aims to strengthen the sector by equipping it with specialized packaging equipment. Simultaneously, in Ungheni, the tourism cluster “Dealurile Măgurii” will develop its services and enhance the region’s tourism offerings. The financial support provided to the clusters will be directed towards the procurement of equipment, goods, works, and services, all of which will contribute to the creation of new jobs and increase the regions’ attractiveness for new investments.
“The financial and technical support provided to the clusters will help their members, including private companies, local public authorities, and research institutions, to continue their development. As a result, both urban and rural areas in Cahul and Ungheni will become more attractive to locals, tourists, and investors, bringing them closer to EU standards. EU support helps both regions improve their living standards and strengthen the economic and social cohesion of the Republic of Moldova,” noted Jānis Mažeiks, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, during the grant certificate award ceremony held on May 13.
