Moldova’s Security in Focus: The Bucharest 9 Summit Takes Action

Increased attention will be given to vulnerable partners in the region, such as the Republic of Moldova, which faces heightened security challenges, at the Bucharest Nine (B9) Summit, taking place on June 6 in Bratislava, according to the Romanian presidency.

Klaus Iohannis will co-chair the Bucharest Nine Summit alongside the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová, and the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will also participate in the event.

The Romanian Presidential Administration mentions that the meeting is taking place about a month before the NATO Summit in Vilnius and will provide an opportunity for an in-depth exchange of views on the allied agenda priorities and major objectives, with a focus on strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defense posture on the Eastern Flank, as well as intensifying cooperation with Ukraine.

The agenda of the discussions will include an assessment of the progress made in implementing the allied decisions adopted at the NATO Summit in Madrid, including commitments on defense investments and expenditures, as well as the support provided to Ukraine in pursuing its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
