Nisporeni District has always been renowned for its considerable wind potential. In ancient times, the locals built numerous windmills on the surrounding hills. These impressive structures became representative of the area and gained a remarkable reputation throughout the country. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were over 20 windmills operating in the entire district. However, after the war and due to industrialization, windmills became inefficient compared to new technologies and gradually fell out of use. By the early 1960s, only three windmills remained in the area. In this context, the aim of the “Magic Windmill” project is of reviving and preserving the history of windmills in Nisporeni.
