G7 foreign ministers meet in Germany on Friday to discuss food security and the situation in Moldova. These issues are on the agenda of the talks, in the context in which the war between Russia and Ukraine threatens to destabilize Moldova as well, Reuters reports.
The heads of diplomacy in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova are also attending the meeting in the Baltic Sea resort of Weissenhaus, and their colleagues in the most developed Western states will reaffirm their support for the two countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country, Nicu Popescu, announced this, as well as his counterpart from Ukraine, Dmitro Kuleba.
Participants in the meeting – which will also be represented in the EU – will also seek to reassure Moldova, a neighbor of Ukraine, which is struggling to deal with an influx of Ukrainian refugees, while a number of incidents have taken place in recent years. Weeks in Transnistria involving pro-Russian separatists have raised international fears that the war in Ukraine could spread beyond its borders.
“This country is weakened by the war, so we must confirm our support for Moldova,” stated a French diplomatic source.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the G20, the group of industrialized and emerging countries, including Russia, will join the G7 meeting on Friday to discuss food security.
