Iulian Groza: Accession to the European Union will depend a lot on the efficiency of the justice system and the way it fights corruption

A system as complex as the justice system cannot be changed overnight. The director of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms, Iulian Groza, claims that the justice reform and the results in the fight against corruption are crucial for the European path of the Republic of Moldova, informs  jurnal.md.

The Institute for European Policy and Reform, in cooperation with Magenta Consulting, conducted the first national public opinion survey on European integrity in the justice sector.

“Accession to the European Union will depend a lot on the efficiency of the judiciary and how it fights corruption. The data show that the majority of Moldovans have heard and know about justice reforms, and I believe this is due to the categorical interventions that have taken place over the last three years. I refer to vetting, as the creation of an Anti-Corruption Court. These are extraordinary solutions, which in a functioning system should not occur. But such measures take place when the system fails to solve its problems of integrity and efficiency,” said Iulian Groza.

At the same time, many citizens are skeptical about the results of the reforms.
