The European Parliament has voted with a majority to extend by one year the measure of liberalizing trade between the European Union and Moldova.
Specifically, this extension means that the exports of seven categories of agricultural products from Moldova – including tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, sweet cherries, plums, and grape juice – will continue to enjoy full liberalization, devoid of tariff restrictions.
“We, the European Parliament, demonstrate our unity once again by swiftly approving all forms of support for Moldova. Two years ago, we initiated the first decision on trade liberalization with Moldova, aiming to expedite the country’s European integration and alleviate the repercussions of the conflict initiated by Russia in Ukraine on Moldovan producers and exporters. We observe Moldova’s increasingly closer integration into the European Union,” remarked European Parliament member Siegfried Muresan.
Muresan highlighted the high appreciation of Moldovan products, especially fruits and vegetables, across the European Union market, emphasizing that prolonging liberalization benefits both Moldova and the European market.

Dumitru Alaiba, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, hailed the decision as another testament to the European Union’s unwavering support for Moldova. “This represents a significant opportunity for our entrepreneurs. In 2023 alone, over 65% of our exports were directed to the EU,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
The current export regime, which came into effect on July 25, 2022, will remain in force until July 24, 2024.
