(PHOTO) Over 120 Hectares of Land Destroyed by Flames in the Last 24 Hours. Which Districts Are the Most Affected

In the past 24 hours, fires have devastated more than 120 hectares of land. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (GIES) reports that firefighters responded to 34 emergencies.

Several districts in Moldova, including Cahul, Cimislia, Nisporeni, Calarasi, Soroca, Floresti, and Stefan Voda, have recorded vegetation fires. The Cahul and Floresti districts experienced the most significant damage.

According to the GIES, firefighters extinguished fires that burned 4 hectares of forest and dry vegetation in Triestii Noi, Cahul district. In Lunga, Floresti district, fires destroyed 80 hectares of land and dry grass.

“According to the recorded data, the fire affected dry grass and rapidly spread towards the Marculesti airport area. To extinguish the flames, 8 firefighter teams, military personnel with a fire truck, and resources from the economic agent with a water tanker and two tractors arrived at the scene. They extinguished the fire at 8:38 PM. As a result of the fire, a total of 80 hectares of dry vegetation burned, including 40 hectares on the airport grounds and 5 hectares of waste,” the source reported.

In this regard, Moldovans are urged to avoid using fire near fields and forests, as high temperatures and low humidity greatly increase the risk of vegetation fires.

“People are urged not to discard cigarette butts, matches, or other lit objects on surfaces near forest areas. While in forested areas, rescuers encourage people to extinguish campfires and barbecues upon departure, and not to leave open sources of fire unattended. Adults need to pay close attention to children and prevent them from playing with fire to avoid causing wildfires,” mentions GIES.
