Moldovan firefighters, deployed to assist in extinguishing forest fires in Greece, carried out their first mission on Wednesday, July 17.
According to information from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (GIES), at 11:57 on Wednesday, a report came in regarding a forest fire breaking out in the Epidaurus area near the city of Corfu, 137 km from the Operations Base where our country’s team is stationed.
“The fire was contained by around 20:37. According to data, 125 intervention vehicles and 12 planes/helicopters were involved in extinguishing the fire, which affected approximately 550 hectares of forest. Our country’s firefighting team intervened in an area of about 5 hectares. Yesterday evening, the fires were successfully contained and extinguished due to the collective effort of all forces involved,” stated GIES.
