Moldovan citizens will continue enjoying visa-free travel to Schengen countries. On December 6, the European Commission adopted the seventh report under the visa suspension mechanism.
The report highlights Moldova’s efforts to address the Commission’s previous recommendations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the report provides a detailed assessment of Moldova’s progress in aligning its visa policies with EU standards. It evaluates trends in illegal migration, applications for international protection, return and readmission, and cooperation on migration, border management, and security.
The document examines the EU neighborhood, the Eastern Caribbean, and Latin America, providing specific recommendations for each visa-free regime beneficiary.

The recommendations urge Moldova to align its visa policies with EU standards, particularly concerning third countries that present risks of illegal migration or security threats to the EU. The report also urges Moldova to intensify efforts to combat organized crime, with a focus on illicit trafficking in firearms and drugs, human trafficking, and the financial aspects of organized crime.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledges the findings and recommendations in the report and is committed to working with other national authorities to implement them in collaboration with the European Union,” the ministry stated.
The European Commission’s recommendations align with Moldova’s status as an EU candidate country.
Over the 10 years since the visa-free regime for short-term travel to the Schengen area began, more than 2.5 million Moldovans have traveled to the EU approximately 15.8 million times.
