Maia Sandu on the energy crisis: We have not allowed Russia to bring us to our knees this time either

Thanks to our efforts and the European Union’s assistance, people on the left bank of the Dniester no longer freeze, and those on the right bank will pay less for electricity starting in February. President Maia Sandu delivered this message.

She emphasized that gas reached the left bank through a €20 million donation from the European Union.

“Once this donation runs out, a €60 million proposal is on the table. However, for these funds to continue being used, Tiraspol must meet conditions related to human rights and freedom of movement in the region,” Maia Sandu said.

She also announced that starting in February, citizens on the right bank will pay the old price for the first 110 kWh consumed.

“We will also allocate €15 million to support businesses, €20 million to cover additional costs for public institutions and €50 million for energy efficiency projects. Together with the European Union, we have proven our strength and once again resisted Russia’s attempts to subjugate us. I thank the citizens for saving energy and helping us overcome this crisis,” Sandu added.

On 4 February in Chisinau, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos announced a new EU support package to mitigate the energy crisis. She stated that the assistance will strengthen Moldova’s energy system, making it resilient, independent, and fully integrated with the European Union.
