National tariff while traveling! Moldovans will no longer pay for roaming in the EU in 5 years

Authorities will cap roaming charges within the European Union for Moldovans and plan to eliminate them within 5 years.

Parliament has approved the roaming regulation project in its first reading. They will cap SMS and mobile data usage fees, allowing consumers to save between 30% and 70% of current costs. Ultimately, fees will match national rates.

“The authorities will implement this capping progressively, aiming to match the levels set by the European Union, according to European roaming legislation. In the long term, they will eliminate roaming fees,” says the Parliament’s press service.

Telecommunication providers must send automatic notifications to users when they enter a roaming zone and inform them of the applicable costs and consumption limits.

The initiative also includes measures to encourage investment in electronic communications infrastructure, including 4G and 5G networks.
