Nicusor Dan Elected President of Romania with 53.6% of the Vote

Nicusor Dan is officially the new President of Romania, winning the second round of the presidential elections held on May 18, 2025. He secured 53.6% of the total votes, defeating AUR candidate George Simion, who received 46.4%.

Final results show that Dan won with a lead of 829,657 votes:

  • Nicusor-Daniel Dan – 6,168,696 votes (53.60%)
  • George-Nicolae Simion – 5,339,039 votes (46.40%)

Running independently, Nicusor Dan expressed gratitude to Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova, where voter turnout reached a record 158,000. He received 88% of their votes in the second round, compared to 52.3% in the first round, when over 91,000 Moldovan-based Romanians voted.

“A special thought of gratitude and thanks to the Romanian citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Together, with trust and hope, we will continue our European journey,” Dan wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday night.

He also thanked President Maia Sandu for her congratulatory message and support during the campaign.
