Cyberattack on Government Infrastructure: STICS Employees Suspected of Complicity

The Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service (ITCS), along with national authorities specialized in the field, launched an investigation into a cybersecurity incident carried out by a foreign actor targeting government infrastructure. According to an ITCS press release, the institution suspects several of its employees were involved in the cyberattack. As a result, it suspended them from their duties for the duration of the investigation.

“In the course of the investigation, ITCS will initiate an internal inquiry into certain employees whose actions are currently under examination due to suspicions of complicity in attempts to sabotage and attack the cyber infrastructure. During the investigation period, the individuals will remain suspended from their roles. The Government of the Republic of Moldova will safeguard cybersecurity and will continue acting to prevent potential cyberattacks on state infrastructure,” the ITCS press release stated.
