Austria Reaffirms Support for Moldova’s European Path

Austria will continue to stand as a reliable partner for Moldova in its European aspirations, Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger said during a press conference in Chisinau with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, IPN reports.

The Austrian official reaffirmed her country’s strong commitment to Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while praising the progress made in advancing reforms.

“We see the remarkable efforts you are making, and we are here to offer our support through expertise and concrete projects that bring direct benefits to citizens,” Meinl-Reisinger stated.

For his part, Popsoi emphasized the importance of the visit for strengthening political dialogue and deepening bilateral cooperation.

“Austria is a faithful supporter of our European path, and its experience — this year marking 30 years since joining the European Union — is both a model and an inspiration for us. We hope to soon share this status,” he said.

Austria currently finances 13 projects worth €32 million in Moldova, focusing on rural development, environmental protection, equal opportunities in the labor market, and strengthening resilience. Initiatives include the “Solutions for Youth” program and the construction of the Higher Technical College for Electronics and Computer Engineering, expected to be completed in 2026.

The minister’s visit to Moldova, which began on August 19, concluded today, August 21, and included meetings with President Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov.
