Confirmed! Ilie Bolojan cuts short his visit to Chisinau: A Spartan aircraft will fly him to Romania on an emergency basis

Romanian interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan requested to return urgently to Romania from Chisinau on May 29 after a drone struck a residential building in Galati, Antena3.ro reports.

The government of Chisinau confirmed that authorities will provide a Spartan aircraft to transport him back to Romania.

Bolojan reportedly cut short his visit after a drone crashed into a residential building in Galati, causing an explosion and fire and injuring two people. He arrived in Chisinau shortly after midnight on a regular flight and planned a series of meetings, but he canceled part of his schedule due to the emergency situation in Romania.

According to reports, Bolojan will not attend the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) meeting, which began at 11:00, because he cannot securely communicate with Romanian institutions. He serves as vice president of the body.

He will still attend two engagements in Chisinau, including a meeting with President Maia Sandu, before returning to Romania.

Later in the morning, he requested that the Ministry of Defence dispatch a Spartan aircraft to bring him back immediately.

The Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) also convened after the incident. The Supreme Council for National Defence was called after the drone strike, which prompted heightened security discussions in Romania.

Separately, Bucharest mayor Nicusor Dan also took part in related national security consultations following the incident.

A drone crashed into a residential building in Galati overnight, triggering an explosion and fire. Two people were injured, and authorities evacuated around 70 residents. NATO condemned the incident as part of Russia’s ongoing drone attacks in the region, Antena3.ro reports.
