Leader of Our Party, Renato Usatii, announced that his party will not vote to approve the Government led by Prime Minister-designate Vasile Tofan, although he believes some members of the Cabinet have performed their duties well. Asked ahead of Parliament’s July 21 session whether Our Party would support the new executive, Usatii replied unequivocally: “No, we cannot support it.”

However, he said he holds a positive view of the work of several ministers who are set to remain in the new government, citing the partnership between Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi.

“When I saw how the Popsoi–Gherasimov tandem worked in the current government, I concluded that these ministers are doing their job well,” Renato Usatii said.

Prime Minister-designate Vasile Tofan is due to appear in Parliament today to present his government program and ministerial team, and to seek a vote of confidence from lawmakers. The plenary session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.

To be confirmed in office, the new Government must secure the support of a majority of elected MPs. If Parliament grants its confidence, President Maia Sandu will sign the decree appointing the new Cabinet.

Vasile Tofan was nominated as candidate for prime minister on July 11, following the resignation of Alexandru Munteanu.
