Teachers and education workers from across Moldova will hold a protest on Wednesday, August 19, in Chisinau’s Great National Assembly Square.

The protest, organized by the Federation of Trade Unions of Education and Science (FSES), will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Trade union representatives are demanding that the authorities honor their commitment to increase the salaries of teachers and auxiliary staff starting September 1, 2026.

“We are not asking for privileges. We are asking for the commitments made to be honored and for salaries to reflect the importance of work in education and science,” the FSES said.

The organizers stressed that the protest is not directed against students or parents, but is aimed at defending quality education supported by adequately paid professionals.

The protesters will adopt a resolution during the action and officially submit their demands to the authorities.

President Maia Sandu said on Monday, August 17, during an interview with Teleradio-Moldova that the authorities could not have anticipated at the beginning of 2026 a number of developments that would later affect the country’s economy and public finances.
