Moldova Could Borrow an Additional €75 Million From French Development Agency for Energy Reforms

The Republic of Moldova could take out a new €75 million loan from the French Development Agency (AFD) to finance reforms in the energy sector. The Government has approved the launch of negotiations on the loan agreement.

The funds would be invested in energy efficiency, renewable energy development and infrastructure modernisation. The programme also includes consumer protection measures and the alignment of environmental policies with European Union standards, the Ministry of Finance said.

The financing is planned under the “Green Energy Transition” programme, which runs from 2023 to 2028 with French support. Negotiations will be conducted by a delegation led by Ion Gumene, State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance.

To date, the Republic of Moldova and AFD have signed six loan agreements worth a total of €205 million.
