Higher gas bills made Moldovans reduce gas consumption. At least this is demonstrated by the volume of natural gas consumed by Moldovans this September. It was 27.4 million cubic meters, which is about 37.8% less compared to the same period of 2021. The data were presented today, October 10, by Moldovagaz, as part of an analysis of gas consumption.
According to the public relations service of SA “Moldovagaz”, however, compared to the current month of August, gas consumption increased by 1.4 million cubic meters or by about 5.4%.
“Household consumers, until September 30, 2022, have paid 99% of the amounts billed in the current year, which is 0.1% less compared to the same period in 2021. In the case of non-household consumers, the share of transfers was 99.8%, with an increase of 0.7 percentage points. The enterprises in the energy and thermal sector in the country paid their bills in proportion to 99.9%, which is 0.1 percentage points more compared to the same period last year”, the company’s message also states.

We specify that the Republic of Moldova is threatened by the gas crisis, because the Russian giant Gazprom intends to stop the delivery of gas. Since October 1, it has reduced deliveries by 30%. Our country has stored 35 million cubic meters of methane in Romania (CSE decided to purchase another 15 million cubic meters), a quantity that would last for approximately 20 days. Gases can be transported through the Iași-Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline, which has already been operating since 2021.
We remind you that the Republic of Moldova is 100% dependent on the Russian gas supplier Gazprom. For the month of October, the purchase price is over one thousand USD per thousand cubic meters, and the tariff for domestic consumers was increased by 27.2%, to 29.26 lei per cubic meter. From October 1, the import price of gas is calculated according to a different formula. It is 70% the price of oil and 30% the spot price of methane.
