The head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, Veronica Dragalin, is on a working visit to the European Prosecutor’s Office. Together with her, the acting general prosecutor, Ion Munteanu, went to Luxembourg.
The two met with the head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, Laura CodruÈ›a Kovesi. The topics of the discussions with the EU official referred to the investigation of high-level corruption cases and the opportunity for collaboration between the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and the European Prosecutor’s Office.

Ion Munteanu claims that the investigation of corruption cases, the embezzlement of state assets and the recovery of criminal assets remain the main objectives of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Moldova. According to him, in order to achieve results in these areas, officers from the Republic of Moldova are open to cooperating in criminal matters with their European counterparts, in order to obtain evidence, seize and confiscate criminal assets, including by setting up joint investigation teams.
For her part, Veronica Dragalin spoke about the need to reform the institution, “to provide it with all the resources, tools and discretionary power necessary to achieve significant results in combating corruption in the Republic of Moldova”. The official expressed her openness to learn from the experience of Laura CodruÈ›a Kövesi, obtained both during her mandate as head of the Romanian National Anticorruption Directorate and in her current position as head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
