The first Moldovan Innovation and Technology Transfer Center NORTEK was inaugurated in Balti. It has an area of over 6 thousand square meters and was created within the “Alecu Russo” State University. The center aims to advance innovations, research, and digital transformation of the northern region of the country, but also to increase the innovation potential of the Republic of Moldova in various fields of science.
The most enthusiastic about the opening of this center are the pupils and students who come here.
“The hardest process is thinking about robotics and building, but everywhere you build you have to program. That’s the most exciting.”
“I watched TV and discovered that we still have this kind of thing in schools. And I asked myself why don’t we try? It’s interesting, it can be addictive. Some kids like it and it can become a profession.”
“The interaction between academia, students, pupils, and industry will facilitate the transfer of technology from scientific research laboratories to the real industrial sector. Where innovative ideas will develop and transform into production. We are convinced that the NORTEK Innovation and Technology Transfer Center will become a real generator of progress, which will bring prosperity to our society”, said Natalia Gașițoi, rector of the “Alecu Russo” State University in Balti.

NORTEK offers access to high-performance technologies in robotics, artificial intelligence, digital manufacturing, and cyber security. They are to be applied in agriculture, industry, creative services, and other sectors of the regional economy.
“With the inauguration of such centers, I am sure that we will have more and more entrepreneurs who will find their purpose, grow and create jobs at home. Such a modern space, which also has classrooms, laboratories, and business incubators, is a chance for the entire northern region and the entire country to become more competitive and to capitalize on the talent and entrepreneurial spirit of young people”, pointed out the first the minister, Natalia Gavrilița.
The center will support young talent in technology and engineering, accelerate start-ups and develop entrepreneurship. All with the aim of increasing the economic competitiveness of the northern region.
The US government is interested in further supporting the Balti community with USAID’s future technology to create an industrial HUB. I am convinced that together we can make NORTEK a center of technology and digitization in the north of Moldova”, said the US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Kent D. Logsdon.
“The opening of NORTEK will start a new chapter in the development of this region. NORTEK will take the engineering expertise of the industrial and manufacturing sector from several districts and complement it with innovation, creativity, sustainability, and state-of-the-art technologies”, said Karin Borovic, Head of the Development Cooperation Section, Embassy of Sweden, Charge d’ Affaires.
NORTEK is the result of a successful partnership between the public, academic, private sector, and development partners, with a total infrastructure investment value of 71.5 million lei.
