President Maia Sandu ranks 6th place on the list of the most trusted foreign leaders for Ukrainians, with 50.4%, who have more confidence in the head of state than in the previous year. At least that’s what the data of a New Europe Center survey shows, according to tv8.md. In first place is the president of Poland, Andrzej Duda, who won public opinion in Ukraine for the second year in a row – 87% of citizens trust him.
US President Joe Biden (79%) and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (73%) are second and third, respectively. There is a significant increase in trust for foreign leaders compared to 2021. At the same time, it can be assumed that the top three leaders could be slightly surpassed by the former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who Ukrainians highly respect.
It is worth noting, however, that the new head of the British government, Rishi Sunak, is in fourth place – 64% of Ukrainians trust him. “These data may indicate that Ukrainians are aware that support for Ukraine in the face of a large-scale invasion is provided by states, and not by their leaders personally. Therefore, the United Kingdom will remain a friend of Ukraine, regardless of who leads the government.”

Putin and Lukashenko are the foreign leaders in whom Ukrainians do not trust the most for the second year in a row – 97% and 94% of respondents. A large share of Ukrainians also distrust China’s President Xi Jinping (73%) and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban (69%) – compared to 2021, distrust of these leaders has tripled.
Also, Ukrainians began to have less trust in the Turkish leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, (the level of distrust increased by 27%), and the French leader, Emmanuel Macron (by 14%).
