The European Commission has proposed supplementing aid for the Republic of Moldova with 145 million euros.
“We stand in solidarity with Moldova while the shock waves of Russia’s brutal war continue to hit the country,” EC president Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement.
European funds are intended to combat the energy crisis and host more Ukrainian refugees. Of the total of 145 million euros, 45 million are non-refundable. Financial assistance is conditioned by reforms in the economy, strengthening the rule of law, energy security, and progress in fighting corruption.

The Commission’s proposal must be approved by the European Parliament and the EU member states. The new tranche of funds would be added to the amount of about one billion dollars already promised by the Union of the Republic of Moldova.
