The place of the Republic of Moldova is in the EU, and the European Legislature will support the European course of our country, continuing to support the forces in charge. The assurances were given by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, who published an open letter on Tuesday, addressed to President Maia Sandu.
“On behalf of the European Parliament, I would like to express our unwavering solidarity with the Republic of Moldova and our trust in the pro-European leadership of Moldova. We are fully aware of the difficult internal situation and the geopolitical context your country is facing, intensified by Russia’s war against Ukraine,” reads the letter signed by Roberta Metsola.
The institution that Metsola leads will continue to support the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
“Be sure that the European Parliament will remain with the Republic of Moldova on its way to joining the European Union. We will continue to provide financial, political support and work with you to strengthen the country’s resilience in terms of security, energy supply and countering Russian-fueled propaganda and disinformation campaigns.”

In the same letter, the president of the European Parliament congratulated the head of state for her leadership and the courage she showed in carrying out key reforms in the country.
“The place of the Republic of Moldova is with us, in the European family. I hope to meet soon”, concludes the European official.
Roberta Metsola’s letter comes a day after Maia Sandu announced that Russia is planning to stage a coup in the Republic of Moldova, including through diversionists from Serbia, Montenegro, Russia and Belarus.
During his visit to Brussels, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he informed Maia Sandu that Russia had a plan to change power in Moldova. He stated that Kiev’s intelligence services obtained documents that would prove his claims.
Russia and Montenegro rejected Maia Sandu’s accusations on Tuesday, while Serbia asked her for an explanation.
Although the White House announced that it could not confirm the reports of the Moldovan authorities about Russia’s attempts to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova, the US declared that it stands by the Moldovan government and people. The Romanian president Klaus Iohannis had a similar reaction, who stated that “these threats should not be neglected at all” and that our country is not alone in the face of these challenges.
