On the eve of the Easter holidays, the Customs Service reminds the Moldovans about the rules for transporting (importing and exporting) money across the customs border.
The import into the Republic of Moldova of the national currency in cash, as well as cash and traveler’s checks in foreign currency, is not limited.
Individuals are required to declare in writing to the customs authorities amounts exceeding EUR 10,000 (or their equivalent) per person. At the same time, individuals have the right to declare in writing amounts not exceeding 10,000 euros (or their equivalent) per person/trip.
Legal provisions on the confiscation of currency in the Republic of Moldova:
Individuals have the right to withdraw cash in national currency, as well as cash and traveler’s checks in foreign currency for a total amount not exceeding 10,000 euros (or their equivalent) per person/trip, without presenting supporting documents to the customs authorities.
Individuals have the right to withdraw cash in national currency, as well as cash and traveler’s checks in foreign currency in excess of 10,000 euros (or equivalent), but not more than 50,000 euros (or equivalent) per person/trip, provided that the customs authorities were presented with supporting documents for an amount exceeding 10,000 euros (or their equivalent), namely:
Customs documents, which are confirming the import of money in the Republic of Moldova;
And/or authorizations to withdraw money from the Republic of Moldova issued by licensed banks and/or authorizations to withdraw money from the Republic of Moldova issued by the National Bank of Moldova.
Amounts exceeding EUR 50,000 (or their equivalent) can be transferred from the Republic of Moldova as part of current and capital foreign exchange transaction, payments and transfers abroad between residents and non-residents.
Individuals are required to declare in writing to customs authorities amounts exceeding EUR 10,000 (or equivalent) per person/trip. Failure to declare entails liability in accordance with applicable law.
