A woman from the Republic of Moldova who attempts to kill her husband by poisoning him with rodenticide substances receives a 10-year prison sentence for attempted murder.
The Court of Appeal upholds the sentence issued at first instance in Italy, according to Rimini Today.
The woman, 48, remains at liberty but cannot approach her 57-year-old Albanian husband, from whom she is in the process of separation.
Her lawyer, Luca Greco, considers whether to challenge the ruling before the Court of Cassation.
The investigation begins after the husband repeatedly ends up in emergency care starting in July 2022, when he reports severe abdominal pain. Medical tests detect two substances used in rat poison, including bromadiolone, a powerful anticoagulant capable of causing death in sufficient quantities.
Police later search the couple’s home and find a syringe containing bromadiolone in a bedroom drawer. Authorities arrest the woman in October 2023 and place her under house arrest with electronic monitoring. She denies the allegations but cannot explain the presence of the syringe or how the poison enters her husband’s food.
According to prosecutors, she attempts to kill her husband in order to continue an extramarital relationship without obstacles. The court also orders her to pay €31,000 in provisional compensation to the victim.
