Alaiba: Moldova is the largest exporter of plums to the EU

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Dumitru Alaiba disclosed that Moldova’s plum exports constituted 25 percent of those sold within the European Union in 2023, amounting to 35 million euros, directly benefiting local producers.

Notably, two years prior, the European Union abolished quotas for seven Moldovan agricultural products, including plums.

“Our entrepreneurs have surpassed expectations, cultivating, harvesting, and exporting 60,000 tons of plums, quadrupling the previous quota of 15,000 tons. This extraordinary accomplishment is a testament to the diligence of our workforce and the exceptional quality of Moldovan goods, which command high demand in international markets. We remain dedicated to fostering an economy where entrepreneurs enjoy access to global markets and flourish. Through continuous reforms, financial support, and market access initiatives. We work to achieve even greater prosperity,” remarked Dumitru Alaiba.
