MP Lilian Carp said that officials involved in the weapons incident at the border with Romania will likely resign. He stressed that the investigation’s conclusions will identify who must be held accountable, but he is “certain” that some officials will step down.

Carp noted that law enforcement institutions carried out their operational duties and detected the weapons in cooperation with Moldovan authorities. He dismissed claims that state bodies failed to act, pointing out that the main question remains how the transport entered the country.

When asked who could face dismissal, the MP stated that no official information currently exists about specific positions or institutions. However, he pointed out that the investigation is advancing quickly and that authorities have already taken the first measures: earlier in the day, officers arrested one person after conducting a careful investigation designed to prevent information leaks.

Carp criticized the public’s demand for “sensationalism” and warned that premature disclosures can seriously undermine investigations, referencing a recent murder case in the Rîșcani district. He added that he cannot reveal more than what the investigation team authorizes, so as not to compromise ongoing procedures.

Addressing national security concerns, Carp acknowledged that a breach allowed the weapons to enter Moldova, which is why investigators are carrying out special measures at the border point involved. At the same time, he stressed that the discovery of the transport shows the country’s security institutions are functioning, even though the incident exposes vulnerabilities that must be fixed.
