The Chisinau International Airport will undergo an expansion of its current terminal by 20,000 square meters to address the significant increase in passenger numbers. In 2024, passenger traffic reached a record 4.1 million, and this temporary reconstruction will enable the airport to handle up to 5.2 million passengers annually, said Director Sergiu Spoiala, according to bani.md.
“This is a temporary solution to accommodate the large number of passengers. The expansion involves adding a new structure to the existing building, from the apron side, to enlarge the terminal,” Spoiala explained.
He emphasized that the terminal built 50 years ago and reconstructed twice, has reached its capacity limits.
