On Chisinau City Day, Mayor Ion Ceban and President Maia Sandu each congratulated the residents of the capital as the city marked 589 years since its first documented mention.
“On the City’s Patron Saint Day, let’s celebrate the people who bring Chisinau to life and everything we achieve together. Happy City Day, Chisinau! Happy City Day, dear residents!” wrote Mayor Ion Ceban.
Later, President Maia Sandu also sent a message of appreciation to the people of the capital:
“Chisinau has the soul of its people — those who live here, who love it, and who give it life every day. They are its true treasure. Through them, the city grows and develops. Let’s work together so that, in just a few years, Chisinau becomes one of the capitals of the European Union. Happy City Day, Chisinau! Happy City Day, dear residents!”
The tradition of celebrating Chisinau City Day began in 1995, when the city first marked the event on the second Sunday of October. In 2000, the municipality officially established October 14 as the permanent date, coinciding with the Orthodox feast of the Protection of the Mother of God.
Today, public transport in the capital follows a special schedule. Authorities suspended traffic on Stephen the Great and Holy Boulevard between V. Alecsandri Street and Metropolitan G. Banulescu-Bodoni Street, and redirected vehicles to nearby roads. They also blocked traffic at the intersection of A. Pușkin Street and Stephen the Great Boulevard.
According to police data, 194 localities across Moldova are celebrating their patron saint’s day. Authorities urge citizens to celebrate responsibly and respect public order rules.
