On December 23, 2025, the Chisinau District Court, Buiucani office, convicted a person of complicity in knowingly accepting the financing of a political party by an organized criminal group, in a continued form.
The court found that between June and October 2022, the defendant, who served as secretary of the Riscani territorial organization of the Shor Political Party, knew the illegal origin of the funds and acted as an accomplice in accepting and managing them. The Constitutional Court declared the Sor Political Party unconstitutional on June 19, 2023.
The court established that the defendant coordinated the mobilization of people from the Riscani district to participate in protests organized in Chisinau, identified transport providers, ensured payment for participants and transportation services, and received, stored, and managed unrecorded sums of money used to finance the party’s activities. The total amount of funds managed for this purpose reached 1,441,543.64 lei.
The court sentenced the defendant to four years of imprisonment in a semi-closed penitentiary and imposed an additional penalty that bans the defendant from holding positions and carrying out administrative and financial management activities within political parties for four years.
The court ordered partial execution of the sentence. The defendant will serve two years of imprisonment, while the remaining two years are conditionally suspended under a probation period of two years. The court replaced the preventive measure of a travel ban with pretrial detention until the sentence becomes final.
The court also ordered the confiscation of 1,441,543.64 lei for the benefit of the state, representing the funds used to commit the offense. The enforcement will take into account any amounts already recovered from other persons involved in the case.
The defendant may appeal the sentence within 15 days to the Chisinau Court of Appeal, Centru, through the Chisinau District Court, Buiucani office.
