The Republic of Moldova is a model candidate for joining the European Union. Vice Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov made this statement during an interview with Moldpres, emphasizing that the government’s goal to achieve EU membership by 2030 is realistic.
The Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration praised President Maia Sandu’s efforts, highlighting that the president has “opened the doors” of EU institutions for Moldova. According to Gherasimov, few candidate countries have matched Moldova’s success in the accession process.
”We are viewed as a model candidate state that other countries can learn from. It is crucial to maintain our determination to transform society and adopt European standards, ensuring that our citizens can enjoy all the benefits of the European Union. This process began four years ago when President Maia Sandu opened doors for the Republic of Moldova in every EU member state and institution.

Recently, the president revisited Brussels, reaffirming our commitment to continue reforms, even in complex areas such as justice. However, I wouldn’t focus solely on these visits but on our determination. Very few candidate countries have achieved what we have,” stated the Vice Prime Minister.
According to Gherasimov, maintaining momentum is essential for completing Moldova’s European integration process. She stressed that achieving this objective requires consensus not only between institutions but also among the three branches of government, as well as cooperation with businesses, academia, and civil society.
