EBRD will provide Moldova with a grant of 5.6 million euros for expanding and modernizing the waste management system

The Republic of Moldova will receive a grant from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) of 5.6 million euros. The money will go to solid waste management projects.

The Commission for Foreign Policy and European Integration has approved a joint report on the project of ratification of the Grant Agreement with the EBRD for the implementation of the project “Solid Waste in the Republic of Moldova”.

“The project aims to create an infrastructure for solid waste management in the Republic of Moldova through the purchase of equipment and machinery for transportation, sorting, processing, and composting for the Ungheni, Nisporeni, and Calarasi regions,” the Legislative Assembly said in a press release.

The project will be implemented through the National Environmental Projects Administration.

“To oversee/monitor the implementation of the project, a Steering Committee will be established. It will consist of representatives from the Ministry of Environment, the Minister of Finance, the State Chancellery, the EIB, the EBRD, and others.”

The project implementation is planned for 2023-2027.

The grant agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EBRD on financing investment projects to develop infrastructure in solid waste management was signed in Chisinau on March 30, 2023.
