The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, together with the Embassies of the EU Member States, mark Europe Day 2022 with a number of cultural and educational events in several regions of the Republic of Moldova.
Under the overarching theme of SOLIDARITY FOR PEACE, the activities planned throughout May will highlight the culture and values of the European Union, as well as the assistance provided by the EU and its Member States, in the Team Europe spirit, for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
“Dear friends, Europe Day this year is marked in a context that has deeply saddened and troubled us. In Ukraine, a cruel and unjustified war is killing innocent people. Entire localities are wiped out by the ferocity of Russian military forces. Today, more than ever, the values that underpin the creation and work of the European Union – unity, solidarity, peace, the rule of law and respect for human rights, particularly the fundamental right to life – become indispensable. The war next door brings a personal duty for all of us to protect peace. Thus, I want to invite you to welcome peace into your homes: Solidarity for peace is the main message we would like to convey during the activities planned on the occasion of Europe Day.” said Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.
The traditional European Village is opening its gates again, this time in physical format, in Chișinău and Edineț. In the capital city, the European Village is organised on 14 May, in the Grand National Assembly Square, followed in the evening by an exceptional concert by Moldovan and Ukrainian artists. On 21 May, the inhabitants of Edineț are invited to a regional European Village event, which will take place in the main square in Edineț, followed by a concert by local artists and Moldovan National Youth Orchestra. European cuisine will be a part of both European Villages that will also host a series of cultural and interactive activities for everyone, including children.
