Fake news are gaining momentum on TikTok. Police: Targeting the September elections and the war in Ukraine

Moldovan police have uncovered a large-scale disinformation campaign on TikTok ahead of the September parliamentary elections. Law enforcement officers detect and document hundreds of fake accounts every day, which spread thousands of false and misleading videos.

Authorities urge Moldovan citizens to stay alert and verify online content before believing or sharing it.

“Every day, our officers identify hundreds of new accounts designed to mislead and manipulate the public,” police representatives said. “This wave of disinformation is directly tied to the upcoming elections and Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine. Most videos use AI-generated content and target government officials, public figures, and ordinary citizens.”
