Former journalist Gabriel Calin, whose party was registered in the parliamentary race of September 28, was reportedly detained on the morning of Tuesday, September 30, according to Newsmaker.md. The National Police announced that searches were carried out in a criminal case concerning the illegal financing of political parties and candidates, as well as money laundering.

According to the cited source, the funding came from a Russian cryptocurrency exchange banned in the European Union. His party allegedly received money in cryptocurrencies, transferred through several electronic wallets linked to this exchange, which is also accused of financing the war in Ukraine.

Gabriel Calin ran in the parliamentary elections as the top candidate of the Christian-Social Union of Moldova, of which he is the leader. According to Stop Fals, he is known for promoting Russian propaganda narratives and supporting Moldovan politicians with ties to Moscow.
